Palm is preparing a second webOS phone for this year?

Tired of waiting for the Pre to come out? Well, we’ll have to disappoint you, if you’ve been looking for yet another possible release date. Instead, there’s a rumor about something, which is actually much cooler, in our opinion. It is said that a phone, similar to the Pre, has been under development by Palm for quite some time now. The source also gives a few other details about it. In terms of appearance, the “Mini-Pre”, as the source calls it, is said to be smaller than its popular brother, but it is still unclear whether it would also sport a hardware QWERTY keyboard. However, one thing is for sure – if such a device really exists, it will undoubtedly utilize Palm’s brand new webOS. The “Mini-Pre” is said to come out as early as this fall, but we suppose that seeing it sometime around the end of the year is more likely.

Did the Pre hit land already?

did-the-pre-hit-land-already_01The team over at everythingpre.com is reporting that the first shipment of Palm Pre phones have landed in Louisville. We would expect for it to have some sort of personal escort seeing that the device is probably the most wanted thing right now. This shipment left the shores of Hong Kong and was dropped off over at the UPS in Louisville where it will probably be staged for reshipping. It’s becoming  more clear that an inevitable launch is upon us with already some television commercials showing the Pre. We’ll have to wait and cross our fingers for an announcement soon!

Palm to accept Pre orders one month before launch

comments
3

The guys at preThinking got their hands on an email from a  person claiming to be a customer service specialist working for Sprint. The message  passed along some interesting information about the Palm Pre. According to the email, we will start to see a promotional campaign for the smartphone one month before the device is officially launched. And once this launch date is set, you will be able to pre-order the phone. That means that once you notice that the airwaves are full of ads for the handset, you should be able to put your name on the list of those wanting to buy the unit. While we have noticed some sporadic ads on television and in the print media with the Pre, the device is included almost as an afterthought; we have yet to see a true campaign centered around the Palm handset. Considering that April 17th has come and gone without the start of the promotion, we can assume that a previous guesstimate of a May 17th launch for the Pre is incorrect. The email  didn’t give any idea about pricing, but now that we know to keep an eye out for a deluge of Pre based ads, we can sit in front of our televisions and read our newspapers until we get the signal that it is time to pre-order the Pre.

Pre caught in the wild… again! The shots shows YouTube app and iPhone comparison

comments

With the hopeful launch of the Palm Pre almost imminent, there is an increasing amount of pictures being taken in the wild. The latest batch shows off a YouTube and email application running on the device. There is also another shot that compares it against the iPhone. The two giants will probably battle to see who will reign supreme among the cream of the crop this summer. Now the only thing left needed is just a hard street date for the release and pricing. Hopefully there will be more information to come in the near future!

Angelina Jolie likes the Pre better than the iPhone?

comments
1

anjelina-jolie-likes-pre-software-better-than-iphone-one_webosHey, this sure is one catchy title up there, but do you know what the best part is? It might be real… We know that Howard Stern said he prefers the Bold to the Pre, but it seems that our favorite movie star, Angelina Jolie, likes webOS much more than iPhone OS, at least according to a production assistant on the set of Salt – an upcoming espionage thriller. In addition, another feature she is said to like is the QWERTY keyboard, with the only drawback that the keys aren’t big enough.  When it comes to the screen, she seems to like the image quality, but also notes that it might be too easy to scratch.

And while the Pre has been enjoying the attention of the loving hands of Lara Croft herself, the device has also appeared on Sprint’s Mobile Business site, giving yet another sign that the actual release is drawing nearer. Sadly, no official date or price have been mentioned.

Is this the Pre?

comments
5

There seem to be many Palm Pre sightings in the open lately. The last two additions to our Palm Pre gallery come from a company called Ludle International that is a Chinese accessory manufacturer. Now, we are not sure that these are real, since the device on the picture may be a dummy model or a knock-off phone. Still, it looks real enough to share at least.

On one of the pictures, the Pre is posing for a size comparison in the company of the Palm Centro and the iPhone, although Apple’s product seems to be somewhat camera shy, laying face down on the table. The second picture gives us an idea of how the phone would look like in our hands if we had really long fingernails. The iPhone is also there, once again lying on its face, making us wonder whether or not it’s genuine too.

The Pre seems somewhat smaller than the other devices on the pictures but we already know it is supposed to be smaller.

So, it would be best if you just take a look at the pictures and decide for yourself if they are the real thing or not.

Pre’s Touchstone charger price unveiled?

comments
0

If you are even remotely interested in the Palm Pre, then you’ve probably heard of the Touchstone charging dock – it is precisely the one that allows you to charge the device without any cables, by just placing it on top of the charger. We have recently seen a video presentation of the Pre, where the marketing representative stated the Touchstone charging dock would be just the first of a series of products under the Touchstone brand.

Now, Engadget has somehow managed to find out what seems to be the price of the dock. According to the Point of Sale inventory list they have found, the dock would cost $69.99, which is rather hefty for just the pleasure of charging your phone without having to plug the charger into it. On the other hand, it was confirmed earlier that the charger would be bundled with a special battery cover, needed for the charger to operable, so at least you won´t have to purchase that separately.

Pre gets caught in the wild, launches no earlier than May 16?

Well, well, who would have thought that we will actually get to write about a truly earth-shaking phone these days? Palm has done pretty well keeping its marvel, the Pre, out of reach for unwelcome guests, but as the actual launch of the phone draws nearer it seems that we will have to get used to seeing it more and more. Two Pre phones have been spotted  at some annual “Bring Your Own Wheel race” and got snapped on the spot. Of course, there is a good fighting chance the images are actually fake, but if they aren’t… how those guys managed to obtain the phones in the first place we wonder? Still, they could have been employees field-testing the units, but either way, this may be a sign that the Pre is finally breaking loose.

It is not a secret that the device will be on offer with Sprint only. What is, however, is its exact launch date. We´ve got a quite interesting leaked document here, saying the Pre should hit the market no earlier than May 16 . We cannot be completely sure as to whether or not it´s truly authentic, but what´s on it does coincide to an extent with what is expected. So, take a good look at the images and cast about if the Pre is your kind of handset or not, because we might be writing our review soon enough!

Pre launch countdown continues, no vacations allowed in May for retail employees says Sprint?

comments

Yesterday we told you that Sprint employees are scheduled to begin training on the Palm Pre, the device that has created more buzz than a bee hive full of the stinging insects. In another sign that gives us better visibility on when the Pre might be released, Sprint has put an embargo on vacations during May for retail employees. Ma Bell did the same thing to her retail people before each iPhone launch, so obviously this is a rather important clue. In the past two weeks, we have heard a range of guesses, many of which have already come and gone with the device nowhere to be seen besides in the hands of Palm executives at trade shows. Now we have the 1-2 punch of Sprint training reps on the device and the vacation embargo for May. We also have started to see the Pre show up in some Sprint television and print ads. You don’t have to be Dick Tracy to see that the most anticipated launch of the year is coming soon.

A stylish Palm Holster comes from Sprint

Palm Pre’s release date is still a mystery, but the first accessories for the device have already started to surface. The newest addition in this category, according to PalmWebOS site, is a stylish, plastic holster that will be offered by Sprint. The accessory, currently marketed as “AGF Holster with shell door” will hold the smartphone with its face inwards and has a hinge-operated see-through door that allows you to view the Pre without removing it from the holster. The opening mechanism is specifically designed to work smooth and open slowly in order to reduce the risk of accidental dropping of the phone. According to the source, the holster will probably set you back around $30. Okay, so how much for the Pre then?
