You may have heard the expression that “there’s no free lunch”, but for the time being, the apps in the App Catalog are free to download and use. This won’t last forever, though, especially if you want to see the App Catalog swell to thousands of apps like Apple’s App Store. Developers will only develop if they can make a few bucks for their time and effort.
Taking a peek in the “About” section of the Spaz app, we learn that version 1.0 will be available for $3.00. We took the screenshot on the left on our very own Pre. Is this pricing a good indicator of how apps will be priced in the App Catalog? It seems like it would be a good idea for Palm to be competitive by keeping pricing comparable to Apple’s App Store. What are you willing to pay for apps for your Pre?

I think that $3.00 for a good quality app is a fair price, competitive with the iPhone. If there is a little bit of money to be made then the Palm WebOS platform will continue to garner more support from developers.
