I agree with ILuvSprint.

itunes sucks really bad, and the lack of a choice-> being pushed into itunes sucks twice as much as itunes does with out support from Palm. Give me another option!

Ok so so who cares, iTunes sucks anyway. Plus no matter what Apple says if someone really wants to sync their Pre with iTunes they are going to find a way to do it!

"So, what this means in short is that Palm Pre users might soon be unable to sync their smartphone with iTunes"

Actually no...what is means are two things: (1) Apple is not going to test these devices nor provide service for them (which is logical, why should they?). And (2) that Apple threatens people with the very common 'if you don't use the original it'll be crap'-marketing line. And usually when a company uses it it's a loose threat. This is even more obvious in the first line of the Apple's official text (the line that was not quoted): "Apple designs the hardware and software to provide seamless integration of the iPhone and iPod with iTunes, the iTunes Store, and tens of thousands of apps on the App Store." - This again is a typical sentence used in these kinds of marketing campaigns (we've created it so we know what's best) that are usually based on a financial decision rather than a technical one (even quite the opposite: often these kinds of (loose) threats show that from a technical point of view there is nothing a company can do).

Now this is in general...in the case of the Pré syncing with Apple's iTunes it might not follow these general 'rules'. But from what we know so far there is no reason to assume otherwise.
