Time-Inc.-promises-tablet-versions-of-all-magazines-by-the-end-of-the-yearOur digital news stands are about to get quite a bit better. Time Inc. has promised that by the end of this year, it will bring all 21 of its magazine titles to the “leading tablet platforms”. Although, by “leading platforms” apparently Time only means iOS, Android and WebOS. Sorry, BlackBerry and non-existent Windows tablet users.

The best part about this news is that Time has promised that the magazines will not simply be scans of the print versions, but will be apps designed specifically for each platform. Currently, only Sports Illustrated is being released on multiple platforms, while Time, People and InStyle are all iPad only. The other 17 titles on the way are: All You, Coastal Living, Cooking Light, Entertainment Weekly, Essence, Fortune, Golf, Health, Money, People en Espagnol, People Style Watch, Real Simple, Southern Living, Sports Illustrated for Kids, This Old House, and Time for Kids.

This should be impressive if Time can pull it off, because digital publishing is a completely different beast to that of print. It will be very interesting to see how this all works out, because the lure of tablet specific apps definitely sounds much better than just glorified PDFs.

HP TouchPad gets $50 slashed off its price online; Amazon goes even lower

HP-TouchPad-gets-50-slashed-off-its-price-online-Amazon-goes-even-lowerIt may have been only a month since the HP TouchPad was released, but the tablet has already been given the instant savings treatment. Presumably in order to boost their device’s sales, HP has dropped the price of the TouchPad to $450 for the 16-gigabyte model and $550 for its 32-gigabyte version. That is $50 less than what the tablet was initially priced at, but if you feel like going even lower, Amazon can give you a better deal.

The online retailer is selling the 32-gig HP TouchPad for exactly $539.51, which is an offer that is yet to be beaten. How long will the tablet be offered through Amazon at this price, however, is not exactly clear, yet the deal over at HP’s official online store will be valid until September 10.

So, if you have been looking for the right time to give the HP TouchPad a shot, this might just be it. Its price has been slashed, webOS is being updated as we write these lines, and the issues with the faulty plastic housing of the device are already being addressed. Nevertheless, if you are still not quite sure about it, feel free to check out our HP TouchPad review.

HP-Pre3-stars-in-a-21-minute-French-video-explorationFor some unknown reason (we are sure there is one, but are too lazy to look for it), France is often the source of webOS devices leaks, and also where webOS devices often launch before they have landed in the US.

The latest video, starring the upcoming HP Pre3 is no exception to the rule – 21 minutes of preview in the French language show every nook and cranny of the upcoming HP phone.

The cute webOS handset is getting a full unboxing treatment down below, and the 1.4Ghz processor is obviously not even feeling the Palm-created operating system, as the interface just flies around.

This leaked epic video coincides with the rumors that the launch of the HP Pre3 is imminent this summer… in Europe. As for the US, the cards are pointing out fall launch, just don’t expect the HP Pre3 on Sprint. Enjoy the video below, before HP has pulled it out.

Brand-new-unlocked-Palm-Pixi-Plus-is-priced-at-79.99---no-contract-requiredIn the past, we’ve seen Verizon’s version of the Palm Pixi Plus getting some remarkable price drops that brought its price to as low as $45 no-contract. Now, it seems like AT&T’s version is heading down the same path since we’re witnessing an extravagant reduction on its price as well.

Brand-new-unlocked-Palm-Pixi-Plus-is-priced-at-79.99---no-contract-required1Naturally, the HP Veer 4G’s arrival on AT&T’s lineup manages to bump the Palm Pixi Plus as being the cutest webOS smartphone on their lineup. However, it’s rather difficult to say why it’s happening, but one web site is selling the unlocked version of the handset for a mere $79.99 – and that doesn’t require any contracts! Maybe it could be due to an abundance of stock, or simply due to the HP Veer 4G’s arrival, but it’s very difficult to not notice the new pricing.

If you’re willing to side with a last generation webOS powered smartphone, then you might as well place an order for yourself seeing that it’s not every day that you find unlocked smartphones selling under the $100 mark. Of course, you’d better make a decision really quick because this sale is available for only today.

HP-misses-out-on-its-promised-release-for-webOS-3.0.2-last-month-but-its-rolling-out-nowSome early adopters of the HP TouchPad might have been bummed by the fact that they waited the entire month of July to find webOS 3.0.2 nowhere in sight – something that was promised to be available “by the end of the month.”

HP-misses-out-its-promised-release-for-webOS-3.0.2-last-month-but-its-rolling-out-nowAlthough they missed out on hitting their promise, HP TouchPad owners don’t need to worry much because it’s actually rolling out – starting right now! From the looks of it, HP’s Vice President of Worldwide Developer Relations, Richard Kerris, stated through his Twitter account that the update is rolling out starting this morning.

Granted that it’s late by one day, webOS 3.0.2 brings forth some bug fixes that should iron out the platform’s experience. In addition, it packs some minor enhancements and tweaks, along with dedicated Calculator and Clock apps, which should strengthen its overall usability.
If you haven’t seen it arrive, then you can search for it manually by pressing the refresh button under System Updates.

HP says it is “getting ready to launch the Pre 3″ and wants developers to submit apps

HP-says-it-is-getting-ready-to-launch-the-Pre-3-and-wants-developers-to-submit-appsHP is hoping that developers are up to challenge of producing more apps for the App Catalog, especially with the HP Pre 3 on the way. An email was recently sent to developers and hopefuls. HP said that those who already have an existing webOS app can check to see if the software will work on the Pre 3 by accessing a new emulator that will be made available later this week for those developers belonging to HP’s Early Access program. Those not in the program can join by sending an email to PDC@palm.com. Right now, the Palo Alto based company is testing existing smartphone apps to see if they are compatible with the Pre 3. If you have a new app for the HP Pre 3, you are requested to send it in to the App Catalog now.

We don’t want to miss the forest for the trees, so lets step back a bit and look at the most important part of the email. Take away all of the sentences relating to apps and you are left with the message that the HP Pre 3 is getting ready to be released. This should really excite webOS fans who outside of the HP TouchPad have had to constantly hear about iOS, Android, Windows Phone 7 and even the BlackBerry OS. WebOS has become an afterthought and who was able to foresee all of this happening back at the CES in January 2009?

Pre-orders-for-the-HP-Pre-3-are-now-available-in-the-UKNow that both the HP Veer 4G and TouchPad are readily available for purchase, while bringing to market the latest webOS experience, there are still some people holding back from picking up either of the two – mainly because the HP Pre 3 is seemingly lurking in the shadows waiting for the right time to attack.

Well, for those who have their heart set on the lovely, yet powerful HP Pre 3, it’s worth knowing that pre-orders for the upcoming smartphone are now available in the UK courtesy of Mobile.co.uk. Available in contract form through Orange and T-Mobile, you can place your pre-order now to guarantee yourself a handset when launch day arrives.

From the looks of it, you can pick up the handset for free through T-Mobile UK with your signature on a 2-year agreement that starts off at 20.42 GBP per month, which so happens to offer 300 minutes, 300 text messaging, and unlimited data. Conversely, you can also get the HP Pre 3 for free though Orange UK as well, but the monthly starting cost attached to it is 30 GBP – however, you do get more minutes and messages with the plan.

Naturally, there are other options available to customers that might better fit their needs, but either way, there is still no exact time frame on when orders will be shipped.

webOS-3.0.2-is-found-running-on-an-HP-TouchPad-in-SingaporeLast week, we reported that webOS 3.0.2 for the HP TouchPad was believed to be rolling out in the form of an over-the-air update, but it has yet to materialize even this week – causing us to wonder if it’s being pushed back later than expected.

webOS-3.0.2-is-found-running-on-an-HP-TouchPad-in-SingaporeInterestingly enough, a photo of an HP TouchPad in Singapore was snapped and shows the tablet running webOS 3.0.2 – the very one that many owners are waiting for. Needless to say, things aren’t all that fine-tuned with the platform out of the gate, but of course, future software updates like this one are expected to further refine the platform experience. Additionally, webOS 3.0.2 is expected to include new calculator and clock apps – plus, an improved auto-correct feature.

Ultimately, the only question left unanswered is when we’ll actually see the update being rolled out? As it stands, the HP TouchPad is on schedule to become available next month in Singapore, with pre-orders already being offered for it. Considering that it’ll more than likely launch with webOS 3.0.2 out of the box, we’d gather that the update will arrive some time before the tablet’s release over there.

Sprint to avoid webOS devices for the time being?

Sprint-to-avoid-webOS-devices-for-the-time-beingWhen it launched back in 2009, the Palm Pre was burdened with the uneasy task of bringing webOS to the masses and it made its debut on no other carrier than Sprint. Unfortunately, things have not unfolded as the nation’s third largest carrier planned and webOS devices are now strangely staying away from Sprint’s shelves.

According to the rumor that was just brought to our attention, Sprint is not planning on offering any webOS devices for the rest of 2011 with the main reasons for that being the poor adoption of the platform and the devices that run it. It was hinted that the HP TouchPad might make it to the carrier’s lineup eventually, yet chances of that ever happening were slim. That being said, those of you who have been waiting to upgrade their trusty webOS handset and replace it with an HP Pre3, for example, might really have to look for it on the shelves of a different carrier, as earlier speculations have suggested.

However, if the rumor is to be believed, Sprint may not be breaking up with the platform entirely as that mostly depends on what HP chooses to do with it. Nevertheless, until the next batch of webOS smartphones hits the market, the majority of the loyal webOS fans might have already converted to a different operating system or switched to a different carrier. Wouldn’t it be too late for Sprint to embrace webOS again?

HP-Movie-Store-is-now-open-for-business-on-the-TouchPadWith its generously sized display, some recent HP TouchPad owners in the US might have been giddy to know that the HP Movie Store app on the tablet would allow them to watch some fine content, but sadly enough, it wasn’t in full operation form on launch day.

HP-Movie-Store-is-now-open-for-business-on-the-TouchPadWell, after a little bit of wait, they’re now able to download the latest update for the HP Movie Store app that finally opens up the cloud-based movie store for business. Much to their delight, the RoxioNow powered service allows TouchPad owners to purchase some of their favorite flicks to watch starting at $9.95 – with rentals going from $2.99 and TV episodes at $1.99 per episode.
