Screen shot 2009-10-26 at 12.09.09 AMIf you’re up in Canada and still eyeballing a Palm Pre, now may be a good time to pick one up given that Bell Canada has just dropped their price to $149.95 CAD with a 3-year contract. That’s a long commitment, but then again, the Pre may be worth having for that period of time. Has Bell Canada hit the sweet spot for you to pick up a Pre?

App Catalog hits 257 apps after new additions

Screen shot 2009-10-23 at 6.21.46 PMAdmittedly the Palm App Catalog is NOT the iTunes App Store, weighing in at only 257 apps compared to tens of thousands of apps offered up for the iPhone. With that said, it’s still very exciting to see the App Catalog begin to grow and mature. Lest we forget, the iPhone was released and without 3rd party apps for a year before Apple conceded to demands for 3rd party apps. It’s nice to see Palm’s App Catalog begin rolling out some apps very quickly after the Pre launch and there is surely much more to come.

The new apps just added include the following: Super Hangman Pro, Blocks, YDice, The Tip Calculator, Cow Can, Knot Guide, Super Hangman Free, Absolute Fitness, BlackJack, 15 Puzzle, vCrumbsFree, Twee Free, GoodMuslim, FlashCards Lite, Calql8 Tips, Where is My Pre, Tank Tracker, Trivia, Bible Trivia, FlashCards, vCrumbs, Blocked, Tally Counter, Timebits, Conmigo, Tiny Twitter, and Twee.

Palm Pre now available to AT&T and T-Mobile customers – unlocked version from Germany

Palm Pre now available to AT&T and T-Mobile customers - unlocked version from GermanyNow that the GSM version of the Palm Pre is being made available to the masses over in Europe, our friends using network providers that are GSM based in the US are eying that coveted device. Sure customers on either T-Mobile or AT&T can jump ship and head over to Sprint so they can experience the WebOS powered device. If the CDMA flavor doesn’t sit with them, they can choose to purchase an unlocked handset from gray-market retailers in Germany. Not everything will the same however – this version has the QWERTZ keyboard layout that will throw off US owners from speed typing. Actually the Z and Y buttons are swapped, so maybe there’s less adjusting required. Fortunately you’ll be able to choose the language – ranging from English, German, Spanish, French, or Italian. In addition, you’ll have to revert back to using EDGE because this version doesn’t support US 3G frequencies – then again you’ll have Wi-Fi if you really need a faster connection. With no word yet on whether or not AT&T and T-Mobile are planning on adding the Pre to their lineups, importing yourself one will probably be the only option for now.

Screen shot 2009-10-21 at 11.08.18 PMUSA Today just printed an article about the phenomenal growth of social networking on mobile devices and how advertisers are chomping at the bit to find any and every way possible to reach mobile users. The article mentions smartphone giants like the iPhone and Android devices, but pictures are worth a thousand words and the pictures clearly show our beloved Palm Pre.

Of interesting note is the increase of social networking traffic from June to July – a whopping 187%. The Pre is part of that traffic increase and it’s nice to see it featured in USA Today.

app-cat-listAs Palm’s App Market has swelled with new apps, you may have noticed the inconvenience of browsing apps on the small screen of your Pre. iPhone owners have the luxury of browsing for apps in iTunes, and now Palm has made it easier for Pre owners to enjoy the same luxury of browsing online from a PC to see all that the App Market has to offer.

Check out Palm’s site here to browse apps in the App Market, then use your Pre to access the App Market and download the apps you want. Kudos to Palm for adding this feature on their site and make things easier for Pre users.

Pixi contestTo add to the excitement of the impending release of the Palm Pixi, Palm is offering a couple different ways to win over 25 free webOS devices. If you sign up on Palm’s Blog, you will have a chance to win one of 25 Palm Pixi handsets being given away by Palm.

Another way to win is by heading over to Palm’s Facebook page and leave a comment. All comments must be posted no later than November 14. Simply, just tell Palm which device you would rather have, the Pre or the Pixi. If selected as the winner, you will have your choice of receiving one or the other, free of charge, from Palm. Which one do you hope to win?

VerizonPreVerizon has confirmed via Twitter that the Palm Pre will join it’s lineup “early” next year, so hopefully that means the Pre will be available sometime in the first quarter of 2010. The Pre will have some hefty competition from Verizon’s other new handsets, including the BlackBerry Storm 2, the Motorola Droid, and the Tour. How will the Pre stack up against the rest?
