The Palm App Catalog continues to steadily grow with each passing day, and now it looks like it will pass the 1,000 app mark either by the end of the year, which is now upon us, or very early in 2010. As more apps fill up the catalog, the webOS platform will become further entrenched and we can expect to see more specialized apps for business owners, students and professionals.
Although the apps in the App Catalog are designed for webOS devices, not all of the apps work for both Palm Pre and Pixi. Some of the apps are for the Pre only, but if you’re a Pixi owner, never fear — there are plenty of apps designed to work with both the Pre and the Pixi. Keep an eye on the app number in the top right corner of your App Catalog for the moment it passes 1,000. Good work, Palm — now let’s raise our glasses this New Year to thousands more apps!

It’s been a little while since we reported on the happenings in the App Catalog. Recently, Palm CEO Jon Rubinstein said that “several thousand” new webOS apps would be coming with the release of the Ares development platform. As of Friday, the App Catalog stands at 843 apps — dwarfed by the iPhone and even the Android app stores, but steadily moving forward with more apps for Pre and Pixi owners.
Weighing in at a hefty 1,500+ pages and over 1,000 annotated screenshots, Made Simple Learning has brought a comprehensive and exhaustive how-to guide book to the App Catalog for only $4.99. Made Simple for webOS is a resource for learning how to use your webOS phone and also covers use of third-party applications and all kinds of tips and tricks. Made Simple also boasts ease of use — they claim that in just two taps, a person can move virtually anywhere in the book for useful information. If you want to become a little more familiar with your webOS device or aspire to webOS guru, you may want to give Made Simple for webOS a try.
As we all wait with bated breath for the App Catalog to emerge victorious from it’s beta status, we must get by on a limited number of developers and the steady trickle of new apps and app updates. Once again, here is a list of new apps and app updates to be had in Palm’s App Catalog. Just head over on your Pre or Pixi to the App Catalog and give them a try.
It’s time once again to list all the new and updated apps that have been added to Palm’s App Catalog. More than half of the new apps come from JM Productions, and as far as we’re concerned, the more apps the better, so keep them coming! Without further ado, here are the apps:
Since Palm launched the Pre and the App Catalog, the App Catalog has been in beta and Palm has strictly controlled the admission of apps into the Catalog for webOS users – this is about to change. Next month, the App Catalog will no longer be beta and developers can distribute their free apps to webOS users via web URL installed in the webOS browser.
We will do our best to bring to you news of new and updated apps arriving into Palm’s App Catalog. As we’ve mentioned before, you can also follow Palm’s announcements of new and updated apps on Twitter by following @PalmNewApps. Here are the new apps added today:
If you have a Twitter account (and if you don’t, what are you waiting for?) and you haven’t started following Palm’s App Catalog updates on
Admittedly the Palm App Catalog is NOT the iTunes App Store, weighing in at only 257 apps compared to tens of thousands of apps offered up for the iPhone. With that said, it’s still very exciting to see the App Catalog begin to grow and mature. Lest we forget, the iPhone was released and without 3rd party apps for a year before Apple conceded to demands for 3rd party apps. It’s nice to see Palm’s App Catalog begin rolling out some apps very quickly after the Pre launch and there is surely much more to come.
