Bell nukes unlimited data plan

Bad news for Canadian Pre owners on the Bell network. It looks like Bell is jumping on the bandwagon of limited data plans along with Rogers and Telus. Their new data plans range from $45 for 500 MB of monthly data and up to $100 a month for 2 GB of data. Existing Bell subscribers will not have to worry about the new plans (yet), but it’s only a matter of time. Limited data is a true bummer, so our hearts go out to our Canadian Pre-owning neighbors. If you’re currently Pre’ing on Bell’s network, what’s your take on this?

Bell drops price of Palm Pre to $99.95

What could be better than buying a Palm Pre on Bell for $149.95? How about buying a Pre on the Bell network for $99.95 (3-year contract required) with their new HSPA network? The Pre is facing stiff competition with the likes of the 8GB iPhone, also selling for $99, so this price drop is a good move to remain a viable option for new smartphone buyers.

Bell’s Pre ad is iPhone-ish

Imitation is the greatest form of flattery – or perhaps it’s a good indicator that the “idea well” has run dry. Bell is excited to tell you about the Palm Pre, and the ad they’ve put together bears a shameless resemblance to watching an iPhone commercial. We suppose the good news is they avoid the decidedly “creepy” ad campaign that Palm put together with a porcelain-colored spokeswoman, but we think they could have done much better than to borrow heavily from the look and feel of an iPhone ad. Yes, the iPhone has been wildly successful, but the Pre is no slouch either and can stand on it’s own and deserves it’s own unique ad campaign. Take a look and see the resemblance for yourself.

GSM/3G Pre gets Wi-Fi Alliance certification for U.S.

There is hopeful news for those pining for a Palm Pre but are not willing or able to run to Sprint to get it. The Wi-Fi Alliance has just certified a Palm Pre with part number P100UNA along with 850/1900 MHz and UMTS/HSPA. The new part number and certification could mean that the Pre is headed to AT&T and/or Rogers once Sprint and Bell’s exclusivity is expired, but there is also a chance that this certification is merely for Bell when they upgrade their service from CDMA to GSM. Keeping a positive attitude and being the glass-is-half-full people that we are, we’re looking at this as a step closer to a GSM Pre for the U.S. and Canada, possibly finding it’s way to AT&T and Rogers someday soon.

Palm Pre coming to Bell in Canada?

Canadians have cause to rejoice and may soon be Synergizing with a shiny new Palm Pre in their hands on the Bell network. Get ready to flick some cards on the webOS interface! In-store advertising reads that the Palm Pre is “coming soon” and Bell customers can “order yours today”, which sounds like pre-orders will be accepted. Although there is no date certain by which the Pre will be stocked on the shelves and rolling out the door, the increase in advertising by Bell points to an imminent launch on their network. When Canada gets the Pre, we will be sure to shout it from the … uh… blogosphere.

Pre release on Bell in Canada may be imminent

It looks like the Pre is about to go international with an imminent launch on Bell in Canada, as suggested by a leaked internal document. Bell employees have started training under a program called “What is Pre”, with training beginning in Calgary today, then moving to Vancouver on July 21st, Toronto on July 23rd, Montreal on July 27th, and then Moncton on July 29th.

It seems perfectly logical that this training will see a Pre launch to shortly follow, so perhaps our Canadian friends will have the Pre by months’ end or shortly thereafter. Hopefully this ushers in other promised international locations, like the UK, very soon!

Canada to get the Palm Pre through Bell

Palm announced that Canadian carrier Bell would be receiving the Pre touchscreen phone in the second half of this year. Adel Bazerghi, senior vice president of Products for Bell Mobility said that “Bell is excited to be only the second carrier in the world to announce the 3G Pre.” In Canada, the network has the largest 3G pipeline to date. Pricing has not yet been determined. In the States, as we reported, Sprint has the exclusive rights to sell the device from launch until the end of the year and no pricing or launch date have been officially announced.
