Just when it appeared that time was slipping away for a new webOS phone for this year, the FCC has given the green light to Palm’s P102EUE. The handset appears to be equipped with a physical QWERTY slider, a 1GHz processor under the hood and it is Touchstone compatible. Before those in the 50 states and territories start getting excited, the model number hints at a unit destined for an overseas launch.
For those with good memories, you might recall that the P100 was the Palm Pre and the P101 was the Palm Pixi. The P102 would seem to be another Palm phone in the webOS lineup. The EUE means that the phone is a UMTS 3G model headed for the EU. FCC approval is still required for such a device if it has the capability to roam on U.S. soil.
Still, all is not lost as recently the P102UNA and P102EWW showed up on the computer screen of certification provider TUV Rheinland. ‘UNA’ stands for North American UMTS support while ‘EWW’ is a code for North American CDMA service.

Even though the words “coming months” attached to the Palm Pre Plus & Pixi Plus models for AT&T might indicate a time frame from now to something like six months down the road, the latter of the two devices might already have a head start. There was a Palm label with the model P121UNA seen over at the FCC which might indicate that it’s the expect Palm Pix Plus that’s bound for AT&T. The findings can be found in the “P121” which indicates a Palm Pixi while the “UNA” means that it’ll be for the North American GSM market. Even though the Palm Pixi Plus has its head poking around the FCC first, we’d imagine that both Palm devices will be released at the same time – so it shouldn’t be too long now before AT&T customers can finally check out what WebOS is all about. Let’s just hope that it isn’t too late for the veteran smartphone maker to really turn things around as they embark on a journey with the second largest wireless carrier in the country.

When the Pixi was
first released on Sprint, one of the big drawbacks when compared to the Pre was lack of WiFi. Evidence from the FCC suggests that those wanting a WiFi’d Pixi may be in luck very soon.
A CDMA Palm Pixi has been tested for 802.11b/g WiFi by the FCC and given Verizon’s gearing up for Palm webOS-based handsets for early next year, it’s likely a Pixi with WiFi capability will show up on Verizon. Are you headed to Sprint for a Pixi now, or are you willing to wait a little longer to see what shows up on Verizon?
